have not said so much here
was waiting for a thing to happen.
but if i wait then the waiting becomes the thing
and the happening still occurs all around me.
i do not understand anything,
i have no pearls of wisdom to fall from my lips to save myself
from life long confusion and derangement of being.
have not figured how to help myself, much less those around me and 'the world' at large.
even though i expect magic from others in my position
i have nothing but sad, easily deciphered illusions that fall flat under the harsh light of day.
i have offered it up though,

the new EP "the narrow path" will be available in limited numbers and will be performed live.

thank you for this moment in your busy lives. this is a rare show, the EPs will probably only be made once and then they will be gone. so if you have any inkling whatsoever to see me play live this would be a good chance.

also Tyrannosaurus Records is not only where my label jones4music records exclusively sells it's wares, it is run by a great guy, Nich Sullivan, who loves and supports indie and local music. that's all his store sells, local and indie music. he is giving me and others like me an outlet, a place to be heard and a chance. it is a good thing. a record store like this in Dallas in Deep-Ellum is where i bought my first indie cd, Ten Hands "The Big One is Coming..." that store and that neighborhood in Dallas and that cd which i still have, meant freedom to me, and hope. Tyrannosaurus Records is offering that same kind of freedom and hope to me now, i hope you can make it out to the show,

i have 6 images of boyhood i cling to, two of them involve leaves and grass
only 4 of the six do i have to pretend were actually moments of love
the title of want is old i have found
not something of myself, but wholly different and aside from it
a someone who has a real answer
that who whom i prepare to instead of the husk become
a real answer that brings no more questions and not fear
but a satisfaction of knowing, the knowing that it will all be ok
and it was for a reason
the torturous love and acidic and voluminous pain
that is wrought upon each of us
simply by the inclusion in the name human
and in waiting i missed it, i miss it all
and once it has slipped by that moment, this moment
a smile, a small hand grasping at mine for safety, security, for home and love

and now i am awake again. peace is not that kind i found.

an idea of me is what we all loved, but ideas and mountains are very different indeed.

the mountain, or actuality if you will, is rough to the touch, more tactile in nature.

the idea is fleeting, generally wrong, and oft times absurd.

the idea changes daily and in certain lights fades away entirely.

the mountain is somewhat constant, though like all things, can and will fall in time.

the idea of him was caught on an autumnal wind and slowly wound its way though the stench of the city to the edge of the forest and beyond to the mountain.

but as it traveled through the trees and the mist so common to deep forests, it began to waver and crumble and fold onto and into itself.

and when the wind, the fall wind, pushed east as clouds and storm billowed from the west, (winter was coming soon you know,) the idea of him smashed and crushed and folded and bent and broke and was forgot as the wind rose with the lift of the land.

and up and over the peak to the valley and he was just gone.

for all there was was the idea.

he had been so lost in it, the thought of who he could or might become, he became nothing at all. he was an idea and the mountain of him forgot to rise out of the bottom of the sea.

perhaps on the next trip, if there is one, he could try again.

who you are?

sometimes in the still of morning when the scent of ocean and salt and diesel mix just past the stone-lined shore and over the old brick of tired buildings and through & in-between the rattle-trap rattle-trap of the ever endless trains speeding and cursing though time and space, it hits my nose and for one blessed moment i forget who i am.

at first slowly, then gaining in intensity and texture, i am back and it is gone fleeting eastward toward the cascades and then up and over through the valleys and into the red desert and on past the great river. my forget travels the wind and water and smoke back into cloud.

and perhaps if i am enough blessed before i pass into ether, i will once more for a moment lose sight and thought and touch of myself on ocean wind.

but now thursday.

yeah like 40 years ago we didn't know that shitting in our own beds would mess the environment up, ok, right.

those who pollute have known for decades what they were doing (like tobacco companies) but because of greed, they did it anyway.

now all of a sudden when they have squeezed every last dime they can out of toxicity and pollution, we are supposed to clean up their mess before the earth becomes uninhabitable? sounds about like America to me, it's what get when you mix greed with arrogance.

20 years ago i figured it out, and now everybody else has too, sad.

seems like a vast emptiness sometimes a lot to me.

and confusion and longing for it all to start over so i can get it right, but it won't and it just goes, the time, and i keep getting it wrong and can't go back and can't think about back cause it misses and ruins now and the white noise expands.

just a hard question and lights and movement and sleep and fear and then it's over.

i played alto and tenor sax in school. i picked the sax in the 7th grade, my first year of jr high, because i saw part of "Bird," the Clint Eastwood film with Forrest Whittaker on television when i was a kid. i saw him, Charlie Parker playing sax in a dark night club, and knew i had to do that, not just listen to it, but do it, make it happen.

so when our school started a band program i joined to play sax, and get out of Shop/Ag class without having to transfer to HomeEc, the only electives available before the band was started, by the school's algebra teacher.

but i quickly found that playing the school 's fight song and "We Built This City" by Starship, hundreds of times for years on end at football games, graduations, awards events and while marching around hot but tiny Texas town squares, was not the same as playing jazz at The 5 Spot or Birdland.

plus that brief encounter with jazz was the only one i had until i was an adult and chose to immerse myself in the music. if someone, anyone had played me Parker, Davis, Ellington, Coltrane, or Armstrong, etc, when i was in Band i would have never stopped, never pawned my sax for...whatever unmentionables i pawned it for.

jazz inspired my first great creative output in the mid 90's, i wrote odes based on the form Coltrane used in Interstellar Space, huge blocks of flowing words to find "it". i wrote The Russian Poems under the influence of jazz and vodka and Russian literature, Zamyatin and Bulgakov and others.

then the darkness.

then the light. bits at time. fits and spurts at first. then born once again, yet not born, more turned mostly back on. and jazz comes back. back first to my ears and then mind and now lips and fingers, and i am blessed.

and i feel blessed to share the promise of this music, this poetry, the knowledge of it. i feel blessed to pass this knowing to my son, and do what he will with it, it will be there, a seed of mystery. jazz is mystery to me. the search for and the answer back to the unanswerable question of The mystery and it is back in me and i am blessed.

i wept when i heard Louis Armstrong and The Hot Fives. i don't know why, it just hit me like light. the weight of it all, like light holds rainbows, it held it all, answering it all and then it went away. slipped off into the distance.

now composers like Mingus and Ellington.

i am somewhere, i am here, i see this all happening. we all scream and shout and pray to the clouds and sky. we are here in this brief moment of time and we asked and we counted even if we are so much dust and dirt and faded memory. it is brave to shout your name to the deafening roar of life.

jazz feels like knowing everything and nothing.

falling short

it is one thing to study and talk about peace, and quite another to put it into practice.

i quit the peace and love game for a long time. quit everything for a long time. because, i thought, if i don't believe in anything, i don't let myself or anyone else down, because i have nothing to live up to.

problem was i still believed in stuff and faking not believing was a lie and it hurts to lie. so now i admit my peaceful beliefs, and my belief in love and watch myself fall short everyday.

nonviolence to me is not just about physical violence also but violence in thought and words.

i try, but i am human. what ever that means, an animal with too much on its mind, and too much mind to just be.

get's all twisted in the transformer and passes a warped signal to the preamp, and then time and a little space and what i hear may not be closer than it appears.

hey all,

i have been very fortunate to be asked to play again at Murphy's, 11/20 and 12/04 at 11pm. last thursday was a great set, hope you got a chance to see it. (click it, the black guitar-->)

on 11/05 we will be honored to play at The Austin Cantina, a fine resturant in the tradition Texas and Mexico. i am from Texas and am looking forward to dinner and the feeling of home.

i miss texas, but i can't live there. i miss something about it that never really was, so can't be again. something that is my memory, my feeling of texas. it never leaves, and sometimes the longing is hard to take.

santana rocks. been listening to sanata's first three albums. fan-freakin'-tastic.

the friend who turned me on to the beatles said something akin to "what, music goes bad, like fruit?" when asked why he listened to "old" music by one of our high school peers.

i find inspiration in music, and hope. the universal language of hope.

john lennon once said (probably quoting someone else) that the most devoted adherents to a peaceful way of life were those who felt themselves to be most violent.

i know when i read those words at sixteen they struck hard at my deeply angry heart. still at thirty-six, i find it hard to put aside my fury at the way things should be, to see what is, right now.

it is as it is, is now my mantra. used to be om mani padme hum, but then i found zen & fatherhood.

it has to be half-full, the glass, even if it isn't. it's the only way for me who sees the emptiness, to also see the glory.

good luck. look for flowers in the sidewalks. don't miss clouds for the sky.

dear Folks,

i am paco, i made all the noise on www.myspace.com/rigorstrife you can find blogs there too.

ramblings will be just that, notes, thoughts, ideas, poems, and what-have-you.

summations will be thoughts that i have been working on for a long time, like, seattle needs rent control. or better yet, we need true economic equality for all folks of the earth.

also, seattle has been incredibly kind to me artistically, i have been offered more stages and opportunities to make a fool of myself than i ever thought possible.

which leads us to the crushing beauty of life for which we must be thankful. but even if we make peace with the pain and the joy, the light and the dark, the paycheck and the rent, it still snuffs us out one by one. and yet if we don't appreciate it now, it slips away.

so here we go. thanks for reading. we can all see what happens.
